Drip Stick
This series by husband and wife team, Richard and Šárka Trager, was taken over a course of several years traveling around the globe, spanning multiple continents and many countries.
Ding! Ding! Ding! After almost getting ran over by bicyclists multiple times a day, Josh was forced to take note of Amsterdam's mass transit system, the bicycle. Amsterdam is a city famous for the bike as the popular mode of transportation and has almost as many registered bicycles (600,000) as it does people (750,000). Here is where Joshua Martens forged the Lomo Bicycle Series.
This series by Joshua Martens was inspired by a by an outdoor market in Europe. The Taiwanese mannequins were breeding grounds for a creative project for Josh. The whimsical expressions and colors transform these photo-based images into pop art.
While living abroad, Joshua Martens was inspired by the charm and character of Amsterdam. As one who sold his car in favor of bicycling throughout New York, Josh was happy to find like-minded people. He applied a chemical-like treatment to the photos, giving them a fresh-from-the-puddle look, that he feels represents the look and feel of his Dutch experience.
This series by Joshua Martens was taken in Miami Beach through the lens of a vintage Argus Lumar 75mm. During post-processing he used several decaying textures to give the photos a look and feel of an old photo that might be locked away in your grandparents attic or found at a flea market.
After a new flower shop opened beneath Joshua Martens' apartment he thought it appropriate to create a series with the new found subject matter, botanicals. He created the work in his Brooklyn studio through the lens of a vintage Argus Lumar 75mm using Through the Viewfinder technique.
What was once the excitement of a child's entire day is now a treasure hidden in unknown places, like antique stores, junkyards, and attics. Šárka and Richard Trager were fortunate enough to stumble upon these 'speedsters' and beautifully photographed them before they sped back to their unknown places.
